Jay Sanders is a Founder and President of PBC Advisors LLC, located in Oak Brook, Illinois. PBC is engaged in providing accounting, management consulting, and financial services to medical practices, and other related health care concerns, such as surgery centers, I.P.A.s, imaging centers and the like. Currently, the firm provides services on an ongoing basis for more than 250 groups consisting of over 2,000 physicians and dentists. Further, PBC provides services to more than 10 Chicago area health systems and has a very active healthcare valuation practice.
Jay, for many years, was the contract CFO of a fully integrated 90+ physician musculoskeletal group with annual net revenue in excess of 150 million dollars. He was involved in the formation of the original group and the mergers and growth that have evolved. He was also instrumental in the development of their ancillary services division which today includes 11 physical therapy centers and six MRI centers.
For seven years Jay was a partner and CEO of a large, regional, medical billing and accounts receivable management company. During those years it went from a company doing $1.4 million a year in revenue with 35 employees to $11 million in revenue with 200 employees.
Jay is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants, and the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (“NACVA”). He is also an Enrolled Agent to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.
Jay has lent his extensive expertise to many industry organizations. He is a Past-President of the National Association of Healthcare Consultants and the Society of Medical-Dental Management Consultants (“SM?D”). Jay has met the qualifications and was selected to be a member of “The American Medical Association’s Doctors Advisory Network” (“AMA”) and the Illinois State Medical Society’s consultant referral service. Jay is a member of the DuPage Advisory Board for The PrivateBank and Trust Company.
Within the educational arena, Jay is an adjunct accounting professor in the Center for Business and Economics at Elmhurst College in the Master of Accountancy Program. He has been a Professional Advisor for the School of New Learning at DePaul University. As a member of its Academic Committee, he counseled and evaluated adult students that have chosen to go into the health care consulting field. He has also been an instructor for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) business valuation courses, and the National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants for their exam review course. He has also served on the faculty of the Ithaca Center for Postgraduate Medical Education, which is affiliated with the University of Rochester Simon School of Business, where he provided specialty, continuing education courses for physicians and healthcare executives.
Jay has a Masters of Taxation from the University of Illinois – Urbana – Champaign. He has a degree in Finance from Western Illinois University and has completed the Accounting curriculum at Loyola University of Chicago.
Jay serves on the Founding Board of Directors for Operation Walk Chicago, a medical humanitarian, not-for-profit (501c3) organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life of disadvantage patients around the work through reducing disability from advanced joint disease.
Steve Blohm is a Partner with PBC Advisors, LLC and is engaged in providing accounting, tax, financial planning, and management consulting services for the firm. Since joining PBC in 1993, Steve has conducted considerable work in the practice acquisition analysis area, including practice valuations. Additionally, he has a full tax practice covering personal and entity returns.
Prior to PBC, Steve worked with high net worth clients in the Personal Tax and Financial Planning division of Ernst and Young. Steve’s significant level of knowledge and expertise is drawn from his many years in medical consulting and in the financial consulting/accounting fields.
Steve also benefits from his numerous professional designations: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and Certified Healthcare Business Consultant (CHBC). Steve has a Fellow Member designation from the National Association of Health Care Consultants. Recently, he was elected to the Board of Directors of this Association, an organization comprised of consultants and accountants serving the healthcare Industry.
Steve has a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois and an undergraduate degree from Western Illinois University. Both degrees were in Accounting and Finance.
Steve resides in western suburbs of Chicago with his wife and their 2 children. Steve enjoys golf, tennis and is actively involved with his children’s sports activities.
Chris Macek is a Partner with PBC Advisors, LLC, providing accounting, tax, valuation, financial planning and consulting services.His clients include multi-specialty and single- specialty medical groups, hospitals, health systems, and ambulatory surgical centers. Chris works with several Chicago area health systems providing fair market valuations for practice acquisitions.He also has a full tax practice covering personal, corporate and partnership returns.
Prior to joining PBC, Chris was the Chief Financial Officer for over fifteen years of one of the largest multi-specialty group practices in the Chicagoland area. During his time as Chief Financial Officer he was instrumental in growing the practice from $30 million to over $75 million in annual revenues. He was responsible for all financial, billing, payer contracting, purchasing, and IT functions.
Chris began his career in 1983 in the healthcare division of KPMG, where he was an audit manager responsible for some of the firm’s largest healthcare clients. His clients included hospitals, physician group practices, nursing homes, and ambulatory surgery centers.
Chris has been a speaker on healthcare financial issues for such organizations as Medical Group Management Association, Healthcare Financial Management Association, and National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants.
Chris has earned numerous designations during his long career including:Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE).He is a member of several professional organizations such as:American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and Medical Group Management Association (MGMA).Chris has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Illinois State University, in Normal, Illinois.
Brian Schaer is a Partner with PBC Advisors, LLC and has been with the firm since 2010. Brian provides accounting, taxation (planning, research, and compliance), and business valuation services to PBC clients. The clients serviced include corporations, partnerships, LLCs, sole-proprietorships, trusts, estates, not-for-profits, and individuals.
Brian has over 19 years of accounting expertise working with medical practices. He has a diverse and broad background in accounting, having been involved in general accounting, tax review and audits, and internal control audits.
Brian has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Roosevelt University. Brian is a Certified Public Accountant and an Enrolled Agent. Brian also holds a CVA designation from the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts.
Brian is originally from the northern suburbs of Chicago and now resides in the western suburbs his wife and their four sons. Brian is very active with his family’s activities, including Cub Scouts and sports.
Jason Fiske is a Partner with PBC Advisors, LLC providing accounting, tax, financial planning and consulting services. His clients include single-specialty and multi-specialty medical groups of all sizes, dental practices, hospitals, and ambulatory surgical centers. Since joining PBC in 2009, Jason has conducted considerable work in the formation and management of some of the largest single-specialty groups in the country. Other areas of focus include transition planning, buy/sell agreements, mergers and both owners and associate physician compensation. Additionally, he has a tax practice covering personal, corporate, partnership and trust returns.
Jason has both a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in Accounting and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus in Business Management from the University of St. Francis. He has earned the designations of Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Healthcare Business Consultant (CHBC).
Wade Ferm is a Partner with PBC Advisors, LLC and has been with the firm since 2014. Wade provides financial statement reporting, fixed asset, and payroll accounting. He is responsible for preparing personal, business and trust tax returns along with monthly profit distributions and analysis. Prior to joining PBC, Wade was with a large public accounting firm focusing on high net worth individual tax preparation and trust work.
Wade graduated from the University of St. Francis in Joliet with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus in Accounting. Wade is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Wade lives in the south suburbs of Chicago with his wife and two sons. He is an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.
